Fiction is the art of telling lies to illustrate the truth

In fiction, truth is something not in existence but that which could happen. What is important to us is how your character acts as if the ‘given circumstances’ and conditions were real.

Your work may be influenced by real events, but your story can take a different direction.  The great thing about fiction is that it allows you to elaborate on the truth with that question “What if?”
